Brakestone Cottage Port Isaac

For up to 6 People

About the Accommodation

Steeped in history, Brakestone Cottage takes its name from a granite block where carts were wedged while loading fishing nets. Located on a traditional pedestrian street in the heart of Port Isaac, this attractive fisherman's cottage, is just a stone's throw from the bustling harbour where the fishing boats land their daily catch. We are only a few steps from the very best seafood restaurants and pub. Stylishly furnished throughout, it sleeps up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms.

We have good WiFi (Fibre) and a Smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Disney+ Apps

A prime location within North Cornwall's designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Port Isaac is a picturesque, atmospheric and historic fishing village dating back from the 18th Century. A lovely place to wander around soaking up the architecture, there are superb cafes and restaurants and a characterful old pub, The Golden Lion, where you can enjoy a local brew on the balcony overlooking the beach. Those wanting more energetic pursuits could stroll around to Port Gaverne beach for some wild swimming, coasteering, paddle boarding, or canoeing; or carry on hiking the coastal path as far as you like to appreciate the dramatic cliffs and coves of this part of the coast. For a change of scenery, explore the north coast and hop in the car to nearby Polzeath or Trebarwith for surfable waves, or gentle Daymer Bay perfect for paddling with smaller children and lazy picnics on the beach. Watersport fans should make a bee-line for Rock, with its sailing club and waterski school, also the ferry across to Padstow harbour for even more great restaurants including many of Rick Stein’s.

Our traditional fisherman’s cottage can sleep up to 6 people but it is small and snug, so we find it most comfortable for 4.

Neighbourhood

Port Isaac has many wonderful restaurants, including the Michelin star Nathan Outlaw restaurants, and two Pubs. The Golden Lion has a balcony that overlooks the harbour, perfect for watching the fantastic sunsets. The Golden Lion, The Mote, and Nathan Outlaws are only a few steps from our cottage. Fresh fish, crab and lobster can be bought direct from the fishermen at the harbour which is just 50 yards away. Nearby beaches include Polzeath Trebawith Daymer Bay Rock And nearby Padstow has more great shops and restaurants including Rick Steins. Our favourite way to visit Padstow is via the ferry from Rock.

Transport

The best way to get to Port Isaac is to drive, but it is possible to take a train to Bodmin station, and then a taxi to Port Isaac which is around half an hour's drive.

The nearest airport is Newquay which is 45minutes away.

Anyone who’s visited Port Isaac will know that it has beautiful narrow old streets that were designed for carts not cars. Parking is sometimes an issue as the village car parks can fill up on busy days. We really recommend renting our dedicated space at the top of the village which will mean even on busy days you’ll always have somewhere convenient to park after a trip out. It does require a walk up the main hill, but it’s much closer than the main village car park. Please enquire for rental details.
